NIKE KUKINI-VERSE ONLINE EXPERIENCE

To celebrate the release of the Nike Kukini trainer my studio was approached to create a ‘metaverse’ style online experience for the online retailer SEVENSTORE. For the ‘KUKINI-VERSE’ we wanted to create a modern metaverse style experience but also one that referenced and informed of the origins of the Kukini trainer. We decided the world would be based in a singular building named the ‘KUKINI-VERSE’. Aesthetically we wanted the building to reflect the Kukini in feeling nostalgic but also extremely modern and futuristic at the same time. We were inspired by the flowing mesh and curves of the trainer so decided to use this to create a flowing, curved building inspired by modern, minimalist architecture. We created a backstory of the world being a bustling ecosystem all powered by the Kukini trainer itself which emits an unlimited supply of power due to it’s electric colour-way and sci-fi/futuristic looking upper mesh. I fictionalised the idea that KUKINI-VERSE was opening its doors for the first time in 22 years since the original release of the Kukini in the year 2000. The world featured a large courtyard at its centre featuring an open roof structure inspired by the upper mesh of the trainer and which houses a large 3D scan of the trainer acting as the main power source for the world. A scientific lab which referenced the Nike Alpha project who were the team who originally designed the shoe and in which users could interact with the scientists who told of the story of how the trainer was formed in this very lab through various experiments. A cinema which featured various visuals featuring the trainer and characters in the world. Finally a store at the exterior of the building in which users could view the 3D scans of the trainer up-close and are instructed to exit the store so they are directly taken to a link to buy the trainer from SEVENSTORE’s web-store. The space also featured a variety of 3D characters showing how the shoe could be modelled and who further told the story of the world. Subtitles also narrated the experience as the user entered various rooms to give more backstory and context regarding the shoe.
